The task was clearly defined: The successful, woven cantilever chair series from Tecta was to be developed further. The result is the new B15. An aesthetically light chair that already combines the characteristics of a true classic: the contemporary interpretation of floating and swinging, the ergonomics of the backrest, the hand-crafted, harmonious wickerwork and differentiated color nuances for individual design options.

Two different weave thicknesses characterize the hand-woven chair frame.
Now it‘s here, the new addition to a successful family: the B15 from Tecta is the answer to the question of a contemporary design that meets the high standards of craftsmanship and comfort. Its relatives are the crown jewels of the company: the B20 with its straight, upright backrest line and the B25, whose design dates back to the 1970s. Between these two models came the desire for a new, modern form; the idea of further developing the company‘s award-winning classics. The central question was how the chair without back legs could be further developed with Tecta‘s know-how in its own manufactory and with a future-oriented wickerwork.
Designer Wolfgang Hartauer analyzed the woven cantilever chair and reworked it for Tecta with specific interventions. “I wanted to develop a chair that I could put at the dining table at home,” he emphasizes. His idea was to rejuvenate Tecta‘s characteristic silhouette and make it appear lighter. To continue the evolution of the cantilever chair with an elegant, translucent chair and equip it with further advantages: “You sit on a chair and want to be supported in the lumbar spine. Sitting is something defined, so lumbar support is important”.
The new B15 takes a back seat at the table and protrudes five centimetres beyond the tabletop in keeping with the times. The conical seat, a typical Tecta feature, characterizes it just as much as the continuous, harmonious round tube of the frame, which invites you to float.
With two different wicker materials and over 25 corresponding colors, it shows individuality and puts you in a good mood – whether at home or in the workspace. The ergonomics of the backrest, the hand-woven, aesthetic weave and the contemporary interpretation make it a new classic for communicative encounters. In short: a bright newcomer – flexible, light and yet unmistakably Tecta.

The trained carpenter and qualified architect, who describes himself as a ‘craftsman’, set up his own design company, Interior Things, based in Holzminden, in 2014. The common thread of his work: creating clear design and order with passion and precision. This is also how his ‘Meterware’ system, a filing system for desks and walls, was created. Designed entirely according to Hartauer’s claim: ‘take me in your hand and move me!’ Powder-coated aluminium trays support elegant wooden or felt shelves.

Everything fits, nothing jams, it’s easy to get on and off. Sensual, haptic and precise at the same time. If you ask Hartauer what he will do in his next life, the answer is spontaneous: become a watchmaker. Surprising? Not really, more the logical consequence of his understanding of aesthetics and order, which go together in the best sense of the word.
