The Kragstuhlmuseum (Cantilever Chair Museum) / TECTA Archiv Lauenförde is the last major work of British architect Peter Smithson. With his wife Alison he designed an industrial landscape park in Lauenförde consisting of the TECTA factory halls and the 4 museum buildings.
The cantilever chair collection documents the development of the chair without back legs from the rigid cantilever construction to the springy “Freischwinger”.
The Jean Prouvé Archives with over 100 originals demonstrate the construction principles of the French engineer and architect.
In the collection of original modern furniture models you will find original chair designs ranging from Schinkel’s cast iron chairs to Wewerka’s designs from the 1980s.ten.
The “Anonymous Aristocrats” collection comprises creations by unknown designers that are at least as good as those of their famous contemporaries.
The Alison and Peter Smithson Archives and the Wewerka Studio feature numerous designs, prototypes and serial products.
The TECTA exhibition showcases the pieces of the current TECTA collection on over 1,000 square metres.
